CPA Compliance
The Canadian Payments Association is changing the standards for cheque specifications to reflect new requirements for cheque imaging. Cheque Imaging will result in a change to the processing of cheques - instead of shipping the actual physical cheque, the data will transport electronically and the original document will be destroyed. The benefits of cheque imaging are potentially easy access to electronic cheque images, potential new products and services to combat fraud such as signature verification software, faster cheque tracing and statement recreation, faster clearing cycle and reduced risk of financial stability of institutions.
In making your clients cheque image friendly this may involve: updating pantograph screens, adding the required backprinting, changing the format for the date field to comply with the new specifications, ensuring the amount field is compliant and that all areas of interest on the cheque comply with the required printing clearances. We are fully versed in these requirements and can provide you with the guidance to make the changes for you and your clients. All cheques must be CPA compliant as of June 30, 2007.
We are pleased to assist you with making the transition to image friendly cheque products for your clients. As some of the required changes are software dependent, your client will need to contact their software provider to coordinate the date for software modifications with their form requirements.

We encourage you to use our standard backprinting - rather than re-inventing the wheel so to speak on your own. We have tested our own backprinting to ensure that it is IMAGE FRIENDLY we cannot guarantee files provided to us from outside sources to be image friendly.

The attached PDF file illustrates the various pantograph designs that we carry which are compliant in black or dark colours. The compliant designs are represented with a check mark. The designs with an X are to be avoided when using black or dark ink colours.
If your client wishes to use a custom pantograph - we would be happy to test their current sample and let you know if it will be compliant and advise you of any required changes to attempt to make it CPA Compliant.
